Suspected Gunman Linked to 9 Shots Fired Incidents: Police
Columbia mall theater was among areas hit; shots were fired through glass, police said.

After police arrested a Beltsville man in connection with a series of shots fired incidents across the region, investigators report they have connected him to additional incidents and there may be more.
Hong Young, 35, of Beltsville, is currently in a detention center in Annapolis, where police say he is being held without bail.

While Young was suspected last week in approximately five cases of shots fired, Anne Arundel police officials said this week that they have definitively linked Young to these nine incidents, each of which is being investigated in its respective jurisdiction:

- Maryland Live!, 7002 Arundel Mills Circle, in Hanover. Suspected bullet holes were found on the building facades; reported in the late afternoon of Wednesday, March 4, once Young was in custody.
- Fort Meade near the NSA. Shots hit a building during late Tuesday afternoon, March 3.
- Intercounty Connector. Multiple shots were fired from an overpass in Prince George’s County, hitting a truck with two people inside on the afternoon of March 3.
- Mall in Columbia, 10300 Little Patuxent Parkway, in Columbia. Shots were fired at the AMC Theatre, where Howard County police found bullet holes in the front glass and a shell casing at the scene. Several employees were in the area but nobody was hit. A Lincoln Town Car was visible on surveillance footage from the same time the shots were fired, approximately 4:51 a.m. on March 2.
- Grand E Buffet, 9600 Fort Meade Road, in Laurel. Four bullets were shot into the front of the restaurant, The Washington Post reported. The incident occurred on March 2.
- Teppanyaki Buffet, 14150 Baltimore Avenue, in Laurel. A window was shattered. Surveillance footage showed a man throwing rocks, then getting into Lincoln Town Car, ABC 2 News reported, of the incident on March 2.
- Russett Community Library, 3501 Russet Common, in Laurel. A bullet went through a window and into the ceiling inside the building at 3 a.m. on March 2. Nobody was at the library at the time.
- Walmart, 3549 Russet Green East, in Laurel. Several shots were heard in the area of the parking lot closest to MD 198 and Russet Green East. No damage was found in the incident, reported at 2:50 a.m. on March 2.
- Arundel Mills Boulevard in Hanover. After a 61-year-old man stopped at the Costco to get gas, he pulled onto Arundel Mills Boulevard and a man in a Lincoln Town Car drive up next to him and started firing at him. His car was hit multiple times, and he was grazed by a bullet. Video surveillance showed a Lincoln Town Car as the suspect vehicle in the incident, which happened at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 24.
Police in Howard, Prince George’s and Anne Arundel counties will investigate and follow up with their respective state’s attorneys for the purposes of filing charges, officials said.
Police said Young was taken into custody March 3 outside Arundel Mills mall after officers saw a bullet casing and handgun during a traffic stop in his Lincoln Town Car, which matched the description of the suspect vehicle in the Feb. 24 shots fired call off Arundel Mills Boulevard.
According to charging documents, Young admitted to his involvement in several shootings and said he “was hearing voices, which made him shoot...”
