Three Hospitalized from Head-On Route 175 Crash: Police

Wrong-way driver involved in collision Sunday morning on MD 175 was in serious condition, Howard County police reported

ELKRIDGE, MD — Three people were hospitalized after a head-on crash on MD 175 Sunday morning.

A section of Route 175 was closed for more than three hours as police investigated the collision.

The two-vehicle crash occurred at 3:25 a.m. when a 2016 Volkswagen GTI was going the wrong direction on Route 175; the Volkswagen, headed east in the westbound lanes, collided with a 2007 Nissan Altima, according to the Howard County Police Department.

The Volkswagen driver—Michael Andrew Sullivan, 27, of North Patuxent Road in Odenton—was in serious but stable condition at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center Sunday morning, police said.

The two people in the Nissan were also hospitalized, according to officials:

  • Zulfekar Husan, 19, of Ruppert Court in Ellicott City, was being treated for injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening at Howard County General Hospital; he had been the Nissan's driver.
  • Zanaib Saeed Malik, 24, of Split Rail Lane in Ellicott City, the only passenger, was in stable condition at shock trauma.

Police said westbound Route 175 was closed between US 1 and I-95 for investigation until 7:50 a.m.
