HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Howard County Recreation and Parks has canceled all sports tournaments involving out-of-state participants. At this time, Howard County Recreation and Parks leagues, programs and in-state tournaments will continue playing. The decision comes on the heels of the Maryland Department of Health issuing an expanded advisory regarding avoiding all out-of-state travel that is non-essential, especially to states with a positivity rate of more than 10 percent.

The governor and the Maryland Department of Health use a positivity rate of more than 10 percent as a measure for public health safety.

"It is extremely important that we are putting the health of our residents at the forefront of all our programs and initiatives," the department stated.
