UPDATE: Trench Collapse Reported in Columbia
Crews worked to rescue a man who was reportedly buried to his chest.

A man was safely extricated and transported to a local hospital after a trench collapse in Columbia.
Howard County Fire and Rescue responded to the scene of the collapse in the 6400 block of Barchink Place just before 8 p.m. A special operations team shored the trench before rescuing the man who was reportedly buried to his chest.
According to HCDFRS, the man was able to assist in his own extrication. He was reportedly digging a water line before the collapse.
