Two Howard County Schools Rank Among Top 10: U.S. News

The 2015 U.S. News and World Report rankings of top high school places Maryland as No. 1 nationwide.

Maryland tops the 2015 U.S. News and World Report annual education rankings as the state with the most high-performing high schools.

According to the publication, 28.9 percent of Maryland’s eligible schools earned gold and silver medals, meaning they are most successfully preparing students for college based on participating in and passing Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate programs and tests. Students must also do well on statewide tests.

Among the top performing schools in Maryland, two Howard County schools made it to the top 10: Marriotts Ridge at 7th place and River Hill at 9th.

California came in second in the publication’s rankings, with 27.2 percent of its high schools earning gold or silver medals. Connecticut was third with 25.4 percent.
