At the time of the shooting, police said Aaron was attending a New Year's Eve party with friends in Anne Arundel County.

"...my son stepped in front of his girlfriend to shield her, and one of the bullets got him," Aaron's father told WBAL.

Officers were called to the 7800 block of Bastille Road in Severn, where police said a shooting was reported at approximately 1:06 a.m. on Jan. 1.

Aaron, who had been shot in the back, was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, authorities said. He received treatment, underwent rehabilitation and was released.
