HOWARD COUNTY, MD — The Howard County Public School System's department of special education invites parents, guardians and all caregivers to participate in the virtual 2nd annual Parent Empowerment Conference Sept. 29-Oct. 1. Two sessions will be offered each night at 6:30-7:30 p.m. and 7:45-8:45 p.m. Conference registrants may choose to participate in as many sessions as they wish.

Sessions will be led by HCPSS special education staff and community partner organizations on topics related to supporting your child and participating in the IEP process during virtual learning. Participants will have opportunities to engage in discussions, ask questions and learn how to use tools to support success and reduce stress during virtual learning. Both seasoned parents/guardians and those new to special education will learn how to advocate for their children and be active and informed members of the IEP team.

The conference is free and open to anyone interested. Online registration is required no later than 5 p.m. Sept. 28. Each registrant will receive an email providing a description of all sessions, including the date, time and Google Meet links. Participants are encouraged to connect to each session early as the space available is limited to 250 people per session. A Powerpoint presentation for each session will be posted on the HCPSS Special Education website following the conference sessions.
