Walmart Holdup, Pool Break-In, Gun Arrests: Columbia Crime

A man was shot in the leg, Cedar Lane Park was burglarized and other crimes were reported in Columbia recently, according to police.

A fire extinguisher was stolen from Cedar Lane Park. The door to the press box was kicked in at the football field in the 5000 block of Cedar Lane. The burglary occurred between June 18 and 19.

Cash was stolen from the check-in building at the Bryant Woods Pool. The burglar got inside after climbing a fence between June 15 and 16.

Walmart was robbed at gunpoint in the 6400 block of Dobbin Road. At 11:52 p.m. on June 18, two men with their faces partly covered went into the business, showed guns and demanded cash from both a cashier and a customer, who complied. The suspects left and nobody was injured. The suspects were described as two black men:

  • 6 feet 3 inches tall, 200 pounds, wearing a black hoodie
  • 5 feet 6 inches tall, 140 pounds, wearing a light-colored hoodie

A man was shot in the leg in a case that may be drug-related in the 6600 block of Dovecote Drive. At 5:10 p.m. on June 17, the man was meeting with someone he knew when the acquaintance pulled out a handgun, demanded money and shot the victim in the knee. Two other individuals rummaged through his vehicle. Police were informed of the incident when the victim was being treated at Howard County General Hospital. The suspects were described as three black teens:

  • 17–19 years, 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 9 inches, 140 pounds, wearing a gray hat and black t-shirt
  • 17–19 years, 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 8 inches, 140 pounds, wearing a gray sweatshirt and blue jeans
  • 17–19 years, thin build

Three Columbians were arrested after a traffic stop on Broken Land Parkway at Little Patuxent Parkway at 11:07 a.m. on June 16. After police found a loaded gun in the vehicle, the following individuals were charged with handgun violations:

  • Elwood Jaquan Morgan, 20, of Rain Dream Hill in Columbia
  • Levar Mullen-El, 18, of Jason Lane in Columbia
  • 17-year-old boy from Columbia

Residential Burglaries

There was an attempt to get into a residence in the 6300 block of Amherst Avenue at 6:39 p.m. on June 19. The basement storm window was broken but the burglary suspect(s) did not get inside.

There was an attempt to break-into a residence in the 5000 block of Columbia Road through an unlocked patio door. The attempted break-in occurred at 3:10 a.m. on June 18.

A wallet, cash and keys were stolen from a garage in the 6500 block of Barley Corn Row. The garage to the residence was open at the time, which was at 8:47 a.m. on June 16.

There was a burglary in the 7300 block of Mossy Brink Court. The suspect(s) go into the residence through an unlocked door in the basement, and it was not clear whether anything had been stolen. The burglary occurred between June 15 and 16.

  • 2014 Honda Accord from the 5000 block of Green Mountain Circle; reported at 2:20 a.m. on June 18
  • Ford Focus from the 11300 block of Little Patuxent Parkway; reported at 10:16 a.m. on June 17
  • 2014 Chevy Captive from the 9100 block of Helaine Hamlet Way; reported at 4:59 p.m. on June 17
