What's Open, Closed For Memorial Day In Howard County

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Howard County government offices, courts, animal shelter, 50+ centers and the Alpha Ridge Landfill will be closed in observance of the Memorial Day holiday on Monday. There will be no trash, recycling, yard trim or food scrap pick-up on Memorial Day. The county’s holiday "slide” schedule will be in effect.

While county parks will be open, park restrooms and playgrounds remain closed until further notice. The Cedar Lane and Schooley Mill Activity Rooms, the Gary J. Arthur, Roger Carter and North Laurel community centers, Kiwanis-Wallas Hall, Meadowbrook Athletic Center, Robinson Nature Center and county historic sites remain closed.

Some Maryland state parks are open while others remain closed"

• Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad State Park: Closed
• Portions of the Houck Area of Cunningham Falls State Park: Closed
• All Full-Service Cabins, Mini-Cabins and other Overnight Lodging: Closed
• Camping: Camping is available at certain state parks. Campgrounds around the state are being opened in a multi-phase process, involving the preparation of facilities for visitors, opening restrooms and bathhouses, and bringing seasonal staff online to manage the safety and well-being of visitors. • Playgrounds at some state parks have been reopened, although parents are encouraged to talk to their children about to how to properly social distance while playing.

The Regional Transportation Agency (RTA) will operate on a “Sunday” schedule. All parking regulations and fees will be in effect.

County operations will resume on Tuesday at regular business hours; however, county government buildings remain closed to the public at this time due to the coronavirus pandemic. Libraries, theaters and public pools remain closed at this time, too.
