Annapolis Motorcyclist Killed In Crash With Pickup: Police

An Annapolis motorcyclist lost control of his bike and was then struck by a pickup truck in Gambrills, authorities say.

GAMBRILLS, MD — An Annapolis motorcyclist lost control of his bike and was then struck by a pickup truck in Gambrills, authorities say. Jonathan David Aorilio, 22, of the 1000 block of Mountain Top Drive, was killed Saturday afternoon. Anne Arundel County Police say the fatal crash happened just before 4 p.m. on northbound Crain Highway (MD-3) near Churchview Road in Gambrills.

Aorilio was riding a Yamaha R1 motorcycle on MD-3 when he lost control and the Yamaha overturned. He was thrown from the motorcycle and was struck by a 2006 Ford F250 pickup truck driven by Darrell Wayne Carlton Jr., 37, of the 14000 block of Oakpointe Drive in Laurel.

Police say Aorilio was taken to a local trauma center, where he was pronounced dead. Carlton was not injured.

The preliminary cause of the crash appears to be reckless driving on behalf of the motorcyclist, police said. The Traffic Safety Section is handing the investigation and any charges will be after review by the state's attorney.
