Genghis Grill a Solid Waugh Chapel Addition

Bekah Walsh's thoughts on the recently opened Genghis Grill in Waugh Chapel South.

Garbanzo Mediterranean Grill and Genghis Grill have been the two latest eateries to open their doors at the new Waugh Chapel shopping center.

I excitedly visited both and today will be discussing the latter.

The closest restaurant in comparison is Bowie's BangBang Mongolian Grill, located on 450 near Giant. The idea is that you select your protein, veggies, seasonings, sauces, and starch to create your own custom stir fry dish which chefs then cook right in front of you!

Genghis takes this concept and runs with this. I popped in, expecting a fast casual style lunch, and was surprised from the start.  Instead of entering to instant selection and payment, you are greeted and seated. Like BangBang, you can prepare your own stir fry if you desire. The similarities end there as Genghis continues on to offer so much more!

Genghis offers table service, table kiosks (those digital tablets that offer games and let you pay the check!), a bar, and a full menu to choose from if you aren't feeling the make-your-own stir fry that day.

Staff and management were all very present and attentive, clearly trying to make the best impression possible. I was amused when a manager noticed I was served my food in a carryout container versus a dine-in bowl. She apologized profusely, while I wasn't bothered in the least. This attention to detail, however, will contribute to overall success.

I chose to make my own bowl (as a vegetarian, I love having complete control over what I am eating!). I found the finished product tasty, and loved the organization shown in this process. Each guest who orders the make-your-own option is issued a card with their name. The chef marks the starch choice and you can then watch the preparation of your food or wait at your table where the dish will be brought to you.

The ambiance at Genghis is small and cozy, and I think overall the restaurant is a solid addition to the shopping center. I like the Mongolian grill concept, and I felt comfortable at this one from beginning to end in addition to enjoying excellent food and service.
