Md. police chief killed in head-on crash (police1.com) — Denton residents are mourning longtime Police Chief George William Bacorn Jr., killed in a head-on crash on Route 331 after a delivery truck crossed the center line in Talbot County. The 36-year department veteran is being honored statewide, with flags at half-staff and tributes from law enforcement and local leaders recognizing his decades of service to Denton and Maryland.
   

2. Caroline County hosts second annual Agriculture Day (americanfarm.com) — Hundreds of local eighth graders from Colonel Richardson and Denton’s Lockerman Middle School spent Sept. 30 at the Caroline County 4-H Park in Denton for the second annual Agriculture Day. Students rotated through 14 hands-on stations, from aquaculture robotics to alpacas, sampling local farm products while exploring how agriculture connects to science lessons and future careers.
   

3. Caroline County 13-year-old takes home win at Maryland Sporting Clay Tournament (somdnews.com) — A Denton-area eighth grader, Lockerman Middle School student Gabriel Perin, brought home first place in his C class at the Maryland State Championship Sporting Clay Tournament, topping 27 competitors. The 13-year-old, who recently joined the National Sporting Clay Association, says he loves both the challenge and camaraderie of the sport.
   

4. Man sentenced in Ridgely murder of vulnerable adult (somdnews.com) — In a case handled at the courthouse in Denton, Tyler Davis was sentenced to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder and abuse of a vulnerable adult in his great-uncle’s Ridgely home. Caroline County prosecutors said forensic evidence and Davis’s own statements supported the conclusion that a physical altercation led to the man’s fatal injuries.
