Concerts in the Park Begin Tonight

Six-concert series at Heritage Park kicks off with the popular classic rock band, The Drunken Uncles.

The first of the free Dundalk summer series known as Concerts in the Park launches tonight at Heritage Park with a performance by The Drunken Uncles.

Concert organizer Angel Ball describes the band as classic rock ‘n roll, adding that the band’s name shouldn’t fool anyone – they’re a family friendly act. The event begins at 6:30 pm and lasts until 8:30 pm.

With the band playing beneath the recently renovated Heritage Park gazebo, Ball suggests bringing a chair for the evening. Hot dogs, Chick-Fil-A, snowballs, popcorn and cupcakes are among the food and drink offerings. There also will be free giveaways from local sponsors, including Gold’s Gym, Kool Smile and Games2U.

The concerts were organized for 20 years by Mark Persiani, who announced he was stepping aside this year. Ball has committed to keeping the annual summer concerts going this year with help from Dundalk-Eastfield Rec Council, the Dundalk-Patapsco Neck Historical Society and Red Hat volunteers.

On the Concerts in the Park 2011 Facebook page, Ball noted the weather is expected to cooperate this evening. The high temperature today, according to the National Weather Service, will reach 85 and this evening is expected to be clear.

“I paid off Mother Nature and tomorrow is the coolest day we will have had all week,” Ball wrote. “So bring your chairs and sit back and enjoy this FREE concert in a beautiful park on a beautiful day. I am looking forward to meeting everyone.”

Concerts in the Park are scheduled every Thursday through Aug. 18. The country band, Detour, is up next on July 21.
