DUNDALK, MD — A woman died and a man was hospitalized after fire broke out in a Dundalk apartment on New Year's Day. The blaze began in a first-floor apartment, according to the Baltimore County Fire Department.
Lillian Lyman Lindeman, 59, of the 2800 block of Dunlawn Court, was pronounced deceased at the scene, officials said.

Crews were called when another tenant reported smoke in his first-floor apartment. He was in critical condition, authorities said on New Year's Day when firefighters were first responding.
He was taken to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center for treatment of injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening, authorities reported on Wednesday, Jan. 2.

In another apartment, emergency personnel said they found Lindeman unresponsive in her living room. Medics made repeated attempts to revive her and provide advanced life support care, but they were unsuccessful, said fire officials.
Investigators determined the fire started when smoking materials ignited other items. Damage was limited to the apartment where the fire began, officials said.
