Exclusive: Fire at Fort Howard

A one alarm fired engulfed another one of the historical buildings at Fort Howard in the 9600 hundred block of North Point Road between 1:00 am and 2:00 am on December 6. The blaze was adjacent to another building, which also caught fire back on September 12.

For both fires, the fire department’s FID (Fire Investigation Division) responded to look into the cause.

Sources said that federal police have been guarding the property 24/7. However, the sources said that the security detail had ended just prior to the September blaze, though this has not been confirmed.

A company called J&J Hauling and Odd Jobs had been doing work at the Fort Howard complex . I contacted the owner, who verified that his company was working at the property; he did not comment beyond that. Witnesses also said that J&J also was providing security at the site.

Additionally, witnesses in this close community reported work being conducted on the property. However, when I contacted Baltimore County, I was told that there are no permits for any type of work to be done at that site.

I am awaiting confirmation from area residents who spoke to the county code enforcement personnel regarding the issue of cease and desist order being filed.

I attempted to contact both the police and fire department, but they could not provide any additional information at this time.
