Wawa Opening Next to Broadway Diner

Dundalk's second Wawa convenience store and gas station could open before the end of the year, according to the superintendant on the building project.

The new Wawa is currently under construction on Eastern Avenue in the 6500 block of Eastern Avenue, next to the popular Broadway Diner.

"It'll be open later this fall, before the end of the year," said Anthony Mattera, superintendent for the Owings-based Hopkins and Wayson General Contractors, which is handling the project for Wawa.

Dundalk's other Wawa convenience store and gas station is located in the . The next closest Wawa is located in the 8700 block of Pulaski Highway in Rosedale.

The new Wawa store is the second recent commercial venture in the Eastern Avenue and Kane Street intersection of Baltimore City. A state-of-the-art with WiFi access opened across the street in July in the Anchor Square shopping center. The Anchor Square shopping center is a 5-year-old redevelopment project at the former home of an east Baltimore fence factory.

Wawa is headquartered in Wawa, PA, an incorporated community in Delaware County near Philadelphia. The company was founded more than 100 years ago as a small dairy. Today, Wawa is a chain of more than 570 stores, 200 of which offer gasoline, according to the company's website.
