Anne Arundel County Recreation and Parks serves millions of residents and visitors annually through a wide variety of services and programs. Its primary focus is to provide comprehensive recreational programs for residents and safeguard valuable land through the maintenance and management of over 160 parks and natural areas. The department manages specialized recreational facilities, including two swim centers, two golf courses, three ice rinks, a baseball stadium, a softball complex, and programs tailored to diverse needs ranging from school-age childcare to adaptive recreation. It also cares for thousands of acres of land, encompassing community parks, greenways, archaeological sites, environmental and historical preserves, and large regional parks spanning several hundred acres. Its mission is to create opportunities that allow individuals to enjoy life, explore nature, and restore their health and well-being. Four adults and three children are without a home after their Lothian trailer home was destroyed by fire Monday morning, authorities said.The trailer fire in the unit block of Cougar Circle (formerly E Street) was reported at 10:10 a.m. Monday. The first units reported a double-wide trailer had flames coming through the roof.The fire was brought under control in about 10 minutes by 30 firefighters from Anne Arundel, Calvert and Prince George's counties.Damage is estimated at $20,000, fire officials said. The cause of the fire is under investigation by members of the Fire and Explosives Investigation Unit.There were no injuries and those displaced were assisted by the Red Cross.
