America's Got Talent Invites South County Showstoppers to Tryout
Talent scouts for the NBC television series asked the South County Senior Center-based song and dance troupe to try out for the show.
The South County Showstoppers have been around since 2007, providing a venue for older south county residents to stay fit, have some fun and do a few performances a year at the senior center.
But once they got started, and people saw their act, they went far beyond a few shows a year at the . The troupe regularly performs and is typically fully booked six or more months out.
In another generation, one might say that their dance card is full.

But not full enough to pass up an opportunity to perform for NBC's television series, "America's Got Talent."
The ladies were contacted in November by a talent scout for the prime time show, who wanted them to try out when America's Got Talent was in Washington DC for live auditions.

Unfortunately, the ladies were booked and couldn't make it.
But scouts didn't give up and invited the group to submit a video, which they recently did. The audition results are not yet available, but everyone at the senior center is keeping their fingers crossed that the ladies will make it to Hollywood.
In the meantime, they aren't sitting around waiting for an answer. The winter holiday season is a busy one for the Showstoppers—who perform at local nursing homes and senior and community centers.
The troupe of ladies age 55 and up and led by Vicki Smtih, includes dancing, singing, comedy and fun entertainment and is further broken down into eight (or more) individual acts, depending on the show. The acts include: Ballroom Dancers, Joyce Clautice, Silver Liners, The South County Showstoppers, Sultry Sirens, South County Sensations Tappers.
Of course they'll be back where it all got started this holiday season. They are slated to be at the South County Senior Center Holiday Celebration at 1 p.m. on Wednesday in Edgewater.
