After a 15-game losing streak that started last season, the Annapolis Panthers won their Oct. 28 homecoming game against Northeast, 35-21. but will stay on at the school as a teacher and head coach of indoor and outdoor track and field.
Cross Country
Severna Park High swept , with the boys and girls sides both capturing first place. The Falcons' Sam Pershall and each finished first overall for the boys and girls side respectively. It was the third consecutive county championship for the Severna Park girls.
At the state championships, Severna Park girls lead the county by finishing No. 3, while Broadneck finished No. 6. Hayes finished No. 6 in the girls individual results for the Falcons.
On the boys side, Chesapeake High junior Alex Love was No. 5 and Severna Park sophomore Forsyth came in at No. 10.
Junior Kerin Webber was the only South River runner to finish the Hereford Cross Country Finals. She finished 2:12 after the top finisher.
Golf
Arundel senior golfer. Broadneck High finished second in the team competition.
Field Hockey
Severna Park sent legendary coach Lil Shelton out in style with another state title. Shelton retired after the season with 20 state championships to her name in 37 years of coaching.
South River High finished the season with 16 wins and two losses. The Lady Seahawks made it through the the regional quarterfinal and regional semifinal, falling to Severna Park (2-4) in the regional final.
Boys Soccer
Neck and neck. That was Broadneck and Severna Park boys soccer teams this season. The midfield combination of and Cole Strong, along with the ever dangerous Alex Moore, helped the Falcons to a 9-0-2 record. A 1-1 draw with Broadneck ultimately meant the Bruins (10-0-1) would claim the county championship.
Broadneck's stingy defense, led by , allowed only one goal against regular-season county opponents.
The Falcons would gain revenge on that earlier draw, as they topped Broadneck 1-0 in the region semifinals. Severna Park would eventually fall in the state semi finals to Bowie High.
The Seahawks fell to Severna Park in the regional semifinal, but held their heads high with an 11-5 season, losing only to Severna Park and Broadneck in regular season play.
Girls Soccer
The landscape of girls soccer this season was very similar to that of the boys, as Broadneck and Severna Park battled it out for the top spot. The two sides would tie 0-0 in an October game that stretched over the course of five days.
The Lady Falcons, behind midfield maestro Gabby Moreno and speedy forward Jennifer Nance, eventually proved to be the county's best squad. After Broadneck was knocked out from the state playoffs by Leonardtown, Severna Park then . The Lady Falcons run would come to an end with a .
Southern High, meanwhile, made it all the way to the Class 2A state finals before falling to Middletown.
South River made it to the regional semi-final before falling to Severna Park. They ended the season 11-3-1, losing only to Broadneck and Severna Park in county play.
Volleyball
Arundel volleyball cruised through its regular season in 2011. on their way to a No. 1 seed in the state playoffs. They lost just one set all season, dropping a set to Broadneck.
Their success continued all the way to the state finals, where .
The Lady Seahawks finished the season 10-6. They fell in the regional quarterfinal to Old Mill, who had beat them earlier in the season. During regular season play, they only fell to Arundel, Broadneck and Old Mill in county play.
