Beloved Edgewater Doc Killed In Crash Helped 9/11 Victims
An Edgewater doctor, known for treating firefighter burn victims and victims of the 9/11 Pentagon attack, will be sorely missed.

GLEN BURNIE, MD — A prominent physician from Edgewater who died last week in a car accident was locally known as a man who did great work as a doctor and had earned the love and support of his community. Dr. Marion Jordan, 74, was killed early Friday in the three-car crash, the Washington Post reported.
A spokesman at the MedStar Washington Hospital Center said that under Jordan's leadership, the center's burn and trauma teams earned worldwide recognition, particularly after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attack on the Pentagon.
Jordan was also beloved by the D.C. fire department, having treated many firefighters. The Capital Gazette reports he was known to support firefighters “when they have a bad day at work.”

Dr. Jeffrey Shupp is the burn center's new director. He worked under Jordan starting in 2007. Shupp said Jordan "took care of the patients from head to toe” and “truly managed the entire patient,” according to the Capital.
Shupp said he "never saw [Jordan] get stressed or lose his composure.”

The DC Firefighters Burn Foundation, which was founded to support Jordan's work, said he was “a close friend of the fire service and well respected by the firefighters from the metropolitan region as well as around the U.S. His loss will be felt by firefighters, burn teams, and burn survivors around the country.”
The tragic accident happened around 1:30 a.m. Friday on southbound I-97. According to the Maryland State Police, Jordan and another driver got into a crash in the middle lane. Jordan and a passenger from the other car got out. As they stood there, another car came, crashing into both vehicles and hitting both men.
Jordan died at the scene.
Police are investigating the causes of the crashes.
