2012 Lake Placid Classic: U-18 Team Games

U-18 team

We are back in Maryland from the Lake Placid tournament and this is a recap of the last 2 days of lacrosse. The Team Academy Mortgage U18 team had a very successful run in the tournament.

After day 1, we were 2-0, and with a tough game against Shoreham-Wading River lurking, we knew we had to be at our best. Shoreham-Wading River, a high school from Long Island that won the 2012 New York State Championship, and also won the Lake Placid tournament in 2010, had talent at every position. We jumped out to an early lead, with strong play from Will Hirschmann, Lavon Chaney, and Spencer Coyle.

The defense was stought all day, with Conner Kipke and Stephen Hincks taking charge. The second half saw great play in the goal by Jake Gavin and we prevailed 6-3 to move onto the semi-finals later that night. In the semi-fianls, we played Liberty Lacrosse, a very talented team from upstate New York, coached by lacrosse legend Gary Gait. Liberty jumped out to an early first half lead, and even though we outplayed Liberty in the second half, we could not over come the first half deficit and lost to Liberty 14-6.

On Wednesday, we played in the 3rd/4th place game against another talented team, Coldbrook Lacrosse, who gave the National FCA team a run for their money in their semi-final game. We jumped out to an early 6-2 lead, with great goalie play from Nick Ramsey and a strong offensive game from Zack Franco, Ben Chisolm, and Nick Altmann.

The second half saw a big come back from Coldbrook and unfortunately, we came up a goal short and lost 9-8. A fourth place finish out of 16 teams, not what we wanted, but still a very successful tournament.
