2nd Annual South River Days Celebration
Join the South River Federation on our South River Days Celebration community kayak and cookout on Saturday, June 9th.

Last summer, the South River Federation started a new tradition—South River Days. This week long event is about celebrating and connecting with the river, whether it is through a project, a meeting, an oyster flotilla, or a kayak on the river. We want to give everyone the opportunity to be a part of the river. The Federation is happy to announce the 2nd Annual South River Days Celebration starting Saturday, June 2nd and running through Saturday, June 9th. Since it is the 40th Anniversary of the Clean Water Act, this years’ theme is Drinkable, Fishable, And Swimmable Water.
Starting Sunday, June 3rd, the South River Federation and Watershed Stewards Academy will host a volunteer day at Camp Woodlands. Camp Woodlands is a beautiful 34 acre site located on Broad Creek which, after joining South River, flows into the Chesapeake Bay. Volunteers are needed to spread mulch and help implement other erosion control measures throughout the property. If you have never been to this beautiful camp, you don't want to miss this chance to spend time in the great outdoors while giving back to your community. Please RSVP to jennifer@southriverfederation.net
On June 5th, the South River Federation will host its General Membership Meeting at the Londontowne Community Hall starting at 7:00 p.m. Chesapeake Conservation Corps Volunteers Carol Wong and Joe Ports will give a presentation on their experience with the South River and West/Rhode River Snapshot. Doug Lashley, of GreenVest, will be presenting on ways communities can collaborate on different projects in the watershed. Doug is currently working with the Federation on a variety of projects and is seeking to facilitate restoration opportunities throughout the watershed to help reduce pollution loads to the river. This meeting is open to the public so bring yourself and friend to find out ways you can get involved with the Federation.

What better way to wrap up a week of celebration, than with a kayak trip, picnic, and wade-in! The Federation is pleased to announce its partnership with Anne Arundel Recreation & Parks as we will be launching the kayak trip from Mayo Beach Park. On Saturday, June 9th, we will explore the Mayo Beach Park area, and then return for a picnic, Senator Bernie Fowler style wade-in, and other family fun activities such as seining and fish printing. Thank you to My Butcher & More of Annapolis for donating their grilling services for the day! Bring your own kayak or rent one from Annapolis Canoe and Kayak in Eastport, 410-263-2303. Please RSVP to Sarah by calling (410) 224-3802 or email sarah@southriverfederation.net. See you on the river!
