Ask "Decorator Deb" about decorating and home staging! She'll answer your questions in her weekly blog on Edgewater Patch.

Hello everyone!  I’m looking forward to writing my blog and
answering decorating and home staging questions from readers!  Here are two questions I received last week:

Q.
I have a great project. My son's room is tiny and oddly shaped and we
struggle to find ways to fit his furniture in the room and organize everything.

A. I know it can be very difficult to
try to squeeze everything into a room that your son needs, especially if the
room is oddly shaped. When you have a small room, it is desirable to furnish
the room with furniture that may have a duel function, to save space.  For instance you may want to consider buying
a captain’s bed that has drawers underneath the bed which may eliminate the
need for a dresser. I also love hanging shelves or storage units on the walls,
it saves floor space and looks great!

Q.
Besides traditional night stands what else would you use?

A.
I’m glad you asked that question!
There are many things you could use.
You can “float” a shelf by attaching it to the wall next to his bed. Another
suggestion to use a trunk or storage ottoman as a nightstand; or a small desk
with a lamp on the side next to the bed, which can have a duel function; or use
a side chair; or consider a storage headboard which can eliminate the need for
nightstands.

I hope my suggestions will help you in
finding solutions to your decorating challenges.  If you would like to give me a call or email me to talk about this further, please feel free to contact me!  Otherwise, send me your questions and I’ll
see you next week!

Thank you!
