June 21 2012 is Fishable Action Day
Does the South River have "Fishable" water ways? Check out this slide show to see why we need to cleanup our waterways.
This year marks 40th Anniversary of the Clean Water Act, which states that our waters must be drinkable, fishable and swimmable in the United States and Territories. Therefore, as part of celebrating the 40th Anniversary, the Waterkeepers have marked June 21, 2012 as the “Fishable” Day of Action. Please celebrate this day with me as your South RIVERKEEPER. My question to everyone is: Does the South River (MD) have “Fishable” water ways? Let me show you through pictures, since it is often said that a picture is worth a thousand words. (See slide show and captions)
So while you can certainly fish in the South River, you may not like what you catch (if it happened to survive the dead zone). The South River Federation is working with partners throughout the watershed to improve the heath of the river and our fisheries, but we still have a long way to go to get to a truly "fishable" river.
