SRYA 100-lb. Football Team Rocks the Navy Stadium

The SRYA 100lb. football team showed the crowds at the U.S. Navy-Marine Corps Stadium what youth football is all about! The boys were invited to participate in the 2011 Patriot Football Classic on September 10, 2011. This was a great day of memories for the team as well as an honor to be included in the 10th anniversary of 9/11 events. The 100lb. team was permitted to have a pre-game meeting in the Navy locker room.

They played a great game on college turf and won with a score of 25-0. As if the excitement of playing on a college field wasn't enough, the boys were thrilled to have their names announced on big plays and to see the scoreboard lighting up their victory. Many of the fields SRYA play on do not have scoreboards and the few that do rarely have them running during youth football games.

The idea of the Patriot Football Classic began five years ago to acknowledge the active role the Armed Forces play in all of our lives. This year is the 10th anniversary of the tragic events that transpired on September 11, 2001. The SRYA 100lb. team were either babies or not even born yet during that fateful day in American history, but through commemorative events such as the Patriot Football Classic, they can learn how the events changed all of our lives and honor the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

The Patriot Football Classic honors all military members both active and retired and the civilian workers who put their lives on the line as first responders. It is because of their diligence and selflessness that we continue to enjoy our freedom to watch our children play football in security and peace. I'm sure this will be one memory that the SRYA 100lb. football team won't soon forget. Go Seahawks!
