SRYA Is Gearing Up For Spring

No matter what the ground hog says in a couple weeks, South River Youth Athletics (SRYA) says spring is coming soon!

Spring sports are preparing for their upcoming seasons and registration is wide open and looking for candidates. Take a moment to hop over to the website and sign up your young athletes. Many sports offer early-bird savings or special activities and early registration allows coaches more time to plan the exciting season ahead.

SRYA Spring Sports Closing Dates

Baseball—March 1

Boys' Lacrosse—Feb. 1 (County), March 1 (Scoopers)      

     * Free shooting clinic for all who register by Feb. 12

Girls' Lacrosse—Jan. 31, Feb 28. (Sticklettes)

Soccer—Varying dates between Jan. 20 through March. 28, check website for details

Softball—March 1, March 10 (8U)

Sports Clips is a new stylist in town that specializes in men and boys' haircuts. They give the guys the MVP treatment in a way cool setting. They're quick, they're good and they're helping out SRYA.

Hop on over to the SRYA website and print out a Sports Clips coupon. You save $2 and that $2 goes to SRYA. The promotion lasts until June 1. That's a lot of haircuts! Print out the coupon to share with friends, family and neighbors. Save money, help out SRYA and help out a new local business. Do you have some sports equipment that you can't use? Are you looking for some new or like new sports equipment? Then look no further. There will be a spring sports equipment swap at London Towne Hall on Mayo Road on Sunday, Feb. 12 from 11:00am until 4:00pm.

A flyer will be posted on the SRYA website by the end of the month with more information. Spirit Wear will also be made available during the swap. If you'd like to order Spirit Wear or would like more information on items available go towww.srya.org/apparel or email president@srya.org.

The 2nd Annual Seahawk Saturday is currently in its planning stages. If you'd like to help out or are currently on the planning committee, then there will be a meeting held at the beginning of February. For more information send an email tospessagno@verizon.net.

It's still not too late to be on the SRYA Polar Plunge team! The 16th Annual Polar Plunge sponsored by the Maryland State Police will be held January 28, 2012 at Sandy Point State Park.

The Polar Plunge benefits the Maryland Special Olympics who raise funds to finance athletes with intellectual disabilities ages 8 years and older. SRYA is proud to be a part of the Polar Plunge again this year.
