SRYA Welcomes Flag Football

SRYA welcomes flag football to it's sports line up!

The South River Youth Athletics (SRYA) would like to welcome flag football to the repertoire of available sports this spring. This program was initiated to introduce children to the sport of football. July ushers in the SRYA fall football program. The experienced players have a good grasp of positions and plays from their time on the field and from watching the pros on TV. Less experienced players may be apprehensive or intimidated by what may seem to be chaotic movements and a jumble of bodies chasing a football. There is a method to the madness which is why SRYA developed a flag football program for children ages 4-7. The flag football season begins May 1 and continues through June 30 with games beginning May 21. Practices are scheduled in 2 one-hour sessions per week for the first three weeks. Games will replace one of those weekly practices and will consist of 2 halves with a 10 minute halftime. Players will get the opportunity to experience and learn both offensive and defensive positions. The registration cost for the flag football season in $100 which includes a t-shirt and opens March 1. Flag football is a wonderful opportunity to get boys and girls involved in the SRYA football community. Volunteers are always needed and appreciated in a new program as well as throughout the SRYA organization.
