Catching Up with Shady Side Student Austin Robinson

Austin Robinson, 11, is a fifth-grader at Shady Side Elementary School.

Patch stopped by Shady Side Elementary on Feb. 13 to talk with fourth-grader Austin Robinson about school, what she has learned and what she likes to do for fun.

Edgewater Patch: What is your favorite thing about school?
Austin Robinson: I think probably the feeling about me going to school and getting to learn new things. And knowing if I don’t get questions right the first time it’s OK because I can keep learning and know better for the next time.

Edgewater Patch: What is something you learned recently in school?
Austin: We have learned a lot; but in science because we are learning about precipitation and everything that rain does and the water cycle. We are learning how water condensates from the clouds. It precipitates and evaporates into the clouds. We practiced that with ice and ice in water. The ice in the water showed condensation on the outside. That happens when the heat meets the ice water. It is like sweat—it is almost melting.

Edgewater Patch: What do you like to do for fun?
Austin: I like to draw people and faces. I also like to draw dresses.

Edgewater Patch: What is your favorite thing about Shady Side Elementary School?
Austin: I like best that the principal interacts with the students a lot more. In my other school in New Mexico I didn’t see the principal. I love how I can see Mr. Casey almost every day and that he comes and talks to our class instead of staying in his office. It’s fun.
