Celebrate the Solstice with a Celtic Concert at Historic London Town and Gardens

Maggie Sansone and Friends will play a concert to celebrate the longest day(light) of the year.

Around the world, people observe spiritual and religious celebrations on the 21st of June. It is known as All-couples day, Feast of St. John the Baptist, Feill Sheathain, Gathering Day, Midsummer and summer solstice.

To celebrate locally, will host a Summer Solstice Concert at 7 p.m. on June 21. The event will feature Celtic music by Maggie Sansone and friends.

On June 21 in the northern hemisphere, the daytime hours are the longest, while the night time is at its shortest. It is officially the first day of summer. (In the southern hemisphere the summer solstice is celebrated in December).

The concert and pre-concert picnic supper is a treat for everyone from the very young to the very old.

Those who arrive early can enjoy a picnic supper on the lawn that overlooks the South River. Wine, beer, sodas and water will be available for purchase. If you don't feel like packing your own picnic, you can purchase ala carte food items from Roundz Catering.

Here is a sampling of what Chef Zachary Pope of Roundz will be offering:

  • smoked chicken wings
  • peach lemonade
  • arugula salad with tomatoes and mozzerella
  • grilled veggies
  • prime rib sliders with bleu cheese spread
  • fruit cups
  • tabouli style quinoa salad with mint and feta cheese

Or bring a blanket and simply enjoy a Tuesday evening of music with friends, cheese and crackers and a nice bottle of wine.

The concert will take place under the tent from 7 to 8:30 p.m. with Maggie Sansone on hammered dulcimer, Andrea Hoag on fiddle, Pat Egan on vocals and guitar and Jim Mahshie on Irish flute. Sansone's music will be available for sale on CD at the concert.

Admission for the concert is $15 per person and $10 for London Town Foundation members and seniors. Children under 11 are free. Advance ticket sales are appreciated.
