Central Elementary Gearing Up for Tiger Trot

The annual 5K and 1-mile fun run will be held April 13.

Students, teachers and parents at Central Elementary School are getting ready for the eighth annual Tiger Trot. The annual run is the school’s largest fundraiser.

This year’s PTA-hosted 5K and 1-mile fun run is scheduled for April 13 and parent volunteer Jill Sohan said the kids at Central Elementary are already getting ready.

“There are a lot of pre-race events and the kids really look forward to it,” Sohan said. “There’s a spirit week beforehand where the kids dress up and they are also designing T-shirts. There’s a lot of student involvement.”

In addition to spirit days and T-shirt designs, the school hosts a spaghetti dinner and auction the night before the race.

For the auction, each class comes up with themes for a baskets, which are then auctioned off during the dinner. Some of the basket themes include a beach time-share and a ski trip.

“The proceeds from both the race and the dinner go directly to the school,” Sohan said. “Last year we raised more than $30,000. They really do raise a lot of money, and it is amazing what they are able to do for the school.”

Sohan said last year’s proceeds went toward technology advancements for the school, which included Smartboards for the classrooms.

In order to participate in Tiger Trot you must register ahead of time—you will not be able to register on the day of the race. For more information on registration and pricing, click here.
