Construction Underway To Protect Anne Arundel Co. Shorelines
Construction for the Long Point Shoreline Resilience Project has started in Edgewater as authorities look to safeguard the area's habitat.
EDGEWATER-DAVIDSONVILLE, MD — Construction efforts to protect more than 1,500 feet of shorelines along Selby Bay from erosion and storm surges have officially started at the South River Farms Park.
The Arundel Rivers Federation announced Monday that work in Edgewater would include the installation of stone sills that will incorporate designs to reduce wave energy.
The work is being carried out under the Long Point Shoreline Resilience Project.

"We're very excited to see this innovative project come to fruition,” Erik Michelsen, senior environmental policy officer and deputy director for the Bureau of Watershed Protection and Restoration Department in Anne Arundel County, said in a release.

“When you can build a project to protect and enhance existing resources, and create the future opportunities to build more marsh by beneficially re-using future dredge material on site, that's a true win-win."
"Arundel Rivers Federation is building a project that should set the standard for how this work is done moving forward," he added.
The project marks the latest shoreline restoration project headed by the Arundel Rivers Federation.
