EDGEWATER, MD — Police and fire crews in Anne Arundel County stepped up to solve crimes and served residents in the Edgewater area in ways big and small in 2017. Patch was there to chronicle some of the above-and-beyond steps the departments took this year, which included a little boy who brought cookies to the police station for his heroes, a killing over drug trafficking that ended in a not guilty verdict, and a whimsical plea for no more creepy clown sightings.

Creepy Clowns Making A Comeback In Maryland?
A year after creepy clown sightings had people on edge from Maryland to California, some police departments bracing for another round of reports. This fall, scary clown sightings were expected again, especially with a remake of killer clown classic "It" hitting theaters. Anne Arundel County Police spokesman Lt. Ryan Frashure told Patch the department has received no such reports this year, and he hopes it stays that way.

Man Found Not Guilty In Davidsonville Woman's Drug-Related Murder

An Anne Arundel County judge has decided that a man accused of fatally stabbing a Davidsonville businesswoman, who lead a double life selling drugs, is not guilty of murder. Terrence Robert Proctor, 40, of the 4100 block of Oliver Street in Hyattsville was acquitted in the death of 37-year-old Nicole C. Burgess.

Dog Rescued From Edgewater Sinkhole By Firefighters: Video

A collie named Siri had an unfortunate and memorable walk when it fell into an 8-foot deep sinkhole in the 2000 block of Shore Drive in Edgewater. Between the depth of the hole and its muddy condition, the dog couldn't climb out and crews from the Anne Arundel County Fire Department and the Annapolis City Fire Department responded to the rescue.

Boy Brings Cookies To His Buddies At Edgewater Police Station

Call it a beloved holiday tradition: A little boy drops by the Southern District Anne Arundel County Police station in Edgewater with treats for the officers he looks up to. Last year, young Tyler stopped in with candy on Christmas Eve; this year the youngster visited a couple weeks early with cookies.

Lothian Love Triangle Murders: Ann Anastasi Sentenced To 60 Years

Ann Marie Anastasi, 44, of Lothian, was sentenced to life in prison with all but 60 years suspended. The Anne Arundel County State's Attorney, Wes Adams, made the announcement that Anastasi was sentenced for murdering her husband and a woman with whom they were having an ongoing sexual relationship.
