Edgewater Man Dies in Crash; Speed, Alcohol Possible Causes: Police

A Davidsonville crash killed an Edgewater man and critically injured two passengers from Odenton and Riva, police say.

Edgewater, MD — Authorities have released the names of an Edgewater man who died in a weekend car crash likely caused by speeding and possibly an intoxicated driver.

Anne Arundel County Police say the fatal accident, which also critically injured two passengers, was reported about 10:40 p.m. on Friday on Beards Point Road near Beards Creek Drive in Davidsonville.

Investigators say a 2007 Ford Mustang driven by Michelle Lee Brookman, 43, of 328 Highland Drive in Edgewater, was southbound on Beards Point Road at a high speed when the car missed a curve in the road. Brookman’s Mustang began to skid, left the road, and struck a tree sideways in the passenger-side door.

Front-seat passenger John David Fisher, 44, of 234 Oakwood Road in Edgewater, who was wearing a seatbelt, was declared dead at the scene. Fisher’s body was taken to the medical examiner’s office in Baltimore for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Two rear-seat passengers were critically injured and taken to Shock Trauma in Baltimore for treatment.

Police say Edward W. Dicey, 20, of 3017 Marlin Drive in Riva, was not wearing a seatbelt. He was thrown from the vehicle and landed in the woods.

Another rear-seat passenger — Christine A. Baerga, 30, of 718 Lions Gate Lane in Odenton — was taken to Shock Trauma with critical injuries.

Brookman was taken by ambulance to Shock Trauma in Baltimore with minor injuries.

Police say the preliminary cause of the crash is excessive speed and reckless driving. A contributing factor may be drug and/or alcohol use.

Any charges are pending review by the Anne Arundel County state’s attorney.
