Edgewater Motorcyclist Dies After Crash With Hummer
Police say the biker was reported speeding before he collided with a Hummer driven by a 17-year-old from Edgewater.

EDGEWATER, MD — An Edgewater man who witnesses say was speeding on a motorcycle died Thursday after crashing into a Hummer driven by a teen.
Anne Arundel County Police say a 2007 Honda XR650 motorcycle driven by Jack Steven Smith, 49, of Edgewater was southbound on Selby Boulevard. Smith’s motorcycle struck a 2005 Hummer H2 driven by Nicholas M. Clark, 17, of Edgewater, who was westbound on Fifth Avenue.
Smith was thrown from the motorcycle and struck the Hummer. He was taken by helicopter to Shock Trauma in Baltimore, where he was pronounced dead from his injuries.

Police say Clark was not injured.
Witnesses told police Clark’s Hummer stopped at the stop sign and that Smith’s motorcycle was driving at a high rate of speed shortly before the crash.

A cause of the crash has not yet been determined. Darkness and limited street lighting in the area may have contributed to the accident, police say. The collision was reported at 5:23 p.m.
Alcohol does not appear to be involved and the motorcycle driver was wearing a helmet. Any charges are pending review by the State’s Attorney.
