Author Mick Blackistone to Talk at Shady Side Museum

The second in the Winter Luncheon Series at the Captain Avery Museum, 1418 EW Shady Side Road, will be held on Wednesday, January 18, with doors opening at 11 a.m.  The program, featuring Mick Blackistone, will begin at 11:30 a.m.

Mr. Blackistone will speak on “A New Decade:  Current Issues Facing the Bay and its Watermen.”  He is well versed on the subject, and the Museum is proud to have him  present this program.  The Museum is named after an early waterman, Captain Salem Avery, and is dedicated to preserving the history of the watermen.

Mr. Blackistone is an award winning author of books for adults and children.  He has also been a lobbyist, a Congressional press secretary, and a Vice President of the National Marine Manufacturers’ Association.  He is also a Chesapeake waterman and editor of the Waterman’s Gazette.  He has received numerous awards, including being named as “Admiral of the Chesapeake” by the Governor in 1992.

Admission to the January 18 luncheon is  $17.  Following the program, homemade soup, specialty bread, beverage and dessert will be served.  Reservations are required and may be made by calling Peggy Tucker at 410 266 8846.
