The dinner speaker will be Maria A. Day, who will present an illustrated talk, “Resources for Family and Local History at the Maryland State Archives.” She will show the types of records that are available for the public to review.
The Maryland State Archives is the state’s repository for government records, but other special collections include church registers, newspapers, photographs, biographical research, and family papers.
Ms. Day will show sample records drawn from the history and families of the Galesville area and discuss the growing number of online resources that allow anyone to conduct family or local research at home. Ms. Day will highlight documents from the Cheston-Galloway Papers recently donated to the State Archives by John M. and Betty Colhoun of Ivy Neck.
Ms. Day is Deputy Director of Special Collections at Maryland State Archives, where she helps to manage and to provide public access to collections of private papers, photographs, and maps.
