Anne Arundel County Recreation and Parks serves millions of residents and visitors annually through a wide variety of services and programs. Its primary focus is to provide comprehensive recreational programs for residents and safeguard valuable land through the maintenance and management of over 160 parks and natural areas. The department manages specialized recreational facilities, including two swim centers, two golf courses, three ice rinks, a baseball stadium, a softball complex, and programs tailored to diverse needs ranging from school-age childcare to adaptive recreation. It also cares for thousands of acres of land, encompassing community parks, greenways, archaeological sites, environmental and historical preserves, and large regional parks spanning several hundred acres. Its mission is to create opportunities that allow individuals to enjoy life, explore nature, and restore their health and well-being. Many persons with mental illness have other compounding illnesses. These additional illnesses make recovery much more difficult. A common example is a mental illness combined with addiction to alcohol or other drugs - called dual diagnosis. Frank Sullivan, LCSW-C, Executive Director, Anne Arundel County Mental Health Agency will briefly describe the current model of best pratices for recovery from dual diagnosis.. Also there will be a pan discussion that will include: Dan Brown, NAMI Anne Arundel County President, Dr., Paul Clelland, M.D., Judge Pamela L. North, Terry Kokolis, Earlene Robinson, William Rufenacht, M.A., L.C.A.D.C, Dr. Lynn Tomeck, LCPC, LPC, Dotty Ackler.
