Five Firefighters Injured Battling Massive Lothian House Fire
A fire broke out the evening of July 25 at a two-story home in Lothian. Five of the 80 firefighters on the scene were injured.
LOTHIAN, MD — Firefighters spent approximately two hours battling a massive two-alarm fire July 25 at a property located at 5512 Greenock Rd. in Lothian. Approximately 80 firefighters from four departments responded and five of them suffered minor injuries.
Anne Arundel County firefighters were joined by Prince George's County firefighters, Annapolis firefighters and Calvert County firefighters. As of the morning of July 26, only one firefighter from the Dunkirk Volunteer Fire Department (Calvert County) was still hospitalized, reported the Anne Arundel County Fire Department.
The fire broke out at approximately 8:36 p.m. and was reported by neighbors and a passerby. The two-story home was engulfed with flames by the time the firefighters arrived. They discovered smoke pouring out from the second floor and attic. Since the home is located in an area of the county that doesn't have fire hydrants, firefighters relied on a combination of supply hose line and a water tanker shuttle that drew water from a pond 3,000 feet away.
