Full Schedule of Upcoming Events at the South County Senior Center

The South County Senior Center, 27 Stepneys Lane in Edgewater, is one of seven senior centers operated by the Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities.
Events planned at the senior center for September and the beginning of October include a driver safety course, a flu shot clinic and book sale.

Wednesday, September 3 from 12:30 p.m.-2:00 p.m.
Pa-Pop’s Doo Wop Music ~Take a trip back to the 50’s and 60’s and hear the catchy beats and fantastic harmonies that make doowop music what it is. You’ll be guaranteed to want to get up and dance to music from the Beach Boys to the Four Seasons!

Tuesday, September 9 from 9:00 a.m.-10:30 a.m.
HEALTHY HIPS AND KNEES ~ Join Missy Adelman, P.T.A. & Brittany Zorica, Certified Personal Trainer, from Bayside Physical Therapy for a FREE seminar on how to keep your hips and knees healthy. Some topics to be discussed are: basic anatomy of the hip and knee, common ailments of the hip and knee, exercise and helpful tips. Sign up by Friday, Sept. 5.

MUSICAL STROLL DOWN MEMORY LANE ~ Center member Tom Smith will share his huge collection of CD’s, probably including some music you haven’t thought about in a long time. You’re invited to join us for this informal group as we listen to some old favorites and share the memories with these songs!

WELCOME TO SUZIE ~ Join us in our official welcome to Suzie Antkowiak, the new center director. Stop by to say hello and enjoy some light refreshments.

AARP Smart Driver Course ~ This is the new and improved AARP Driver Safety course. For AARP members the new fee is $15.00, for non AARP members the new fee is $20.00, payable to your instructor. AARP members are asked to bring their membership card. Sign up in advance at the front desk.

Semi Annual Flea Market ~ It’s the big one, the Center’s fall sale. Shop for a huge variety of items at prices you won’t believe! All proceeds benefit our Center! We continually welcome your no longer used, unwanted items in good condition, excluding clothes and electronics. Your help at flea market time would also be appreciated!

MUSIC WITH TOM DELANEY ~ This show is packed with fun songs that everyone can sing along to plus a bit of comedy to make you laugh.
Friday, September 26 from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
FLU SHOT CLINIC ~ Don’t take any chances! Be proactive and get your flu shot early. Rite-Aid Pharmacy will be here today to administer the flu vaccine. Medicare covers this cost, so be sure to bring your Medicare card. Appointments are required by Friday, September 19.
Wednesday, October 1
FALL CLASSES BEGIN ~ Fall classes begin at South County Senior Center. Students may register at AACC locations, by fax or by mail through the second week of classes. There is an $80 registration fee for all students. Students under age 60 also pay $40 per course. A list of Fall class offerings is available at the center.
Monday, October 6-Friday, October 10 from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m., Friday until 2:00 p.m.
BOOK SALE ~ Browse and shop a huge selection of books at bargain prices.
Tuesdays, October 7-December 16 from 1:00 p.m.-2:30 p.m.
D.C. HAND DANCING CLASS ~ Hand Dancing was popular back in the 50’s and 60’s in the D.C. and Baltimore area. The music will be familiar and the dance style is fairly easy to learn. This seven week class will be sponsored by Anne Arundel County Rec & Parks. There is a $40 fee per person to register. You may register at the front desk. Note: class will not be held on October 14 & 21 or November 4 & 11.
