Grand Opening for West Marine This Weekend in Deale

An expanded West Marine is opening in Deale this weekend. The construction began in January, with an expansion that would bring an additional 5,000 square feet—a doubling of the space—to their customers in south county.

West Marine is located at Herrington Harbour North Marina.

Store manager Cristyn Johnson said that she is excited to be able to offer customers more.

“Our customers have been asking, ‘When are you going to get a bigger store?’” Johnson said in a telephone interview.

She continued, “with this addition, we’ve tripled the size of our sailing set. We are here in the sailing capital of the world, we have racers, cruisers, transients and we could serve them as well as we wanted to.”

Johnson herself has been with West Marine for seven years, working in Glen Burnie, Alexandria, VA and now at the Deale store.

She is a sailor herself, having learned the ropes with sea scouts on the Magothy River as a teen.

“This is my favorite store, just because of the area we are in. We have boat builders in the yard, you see the guys who are working on the boats,” Johnson said.

The ribbon-cutting will be Saturday, but the festivities for the Grand Opening of the 10,000 square foot store will begin on Friday and run through Sunday.

The activities will include:

• A boat show featuring vessels from Free State Yachts, Integrity Yacht Sales, Duffy Electric Boats and Composite Yachts
• Test the newest kayaks in an on-site pool
• Fishing seminars with tips for anglers
• High tech electronic demonstrations
• Expert Advice from Herrington Harbour Marina Resorts, Shiver Me Timbers, Atlantic Spars and Rigging, West River Cruises, South County Signs, Osprey Marine Composites, Schuman Boat & Yacht Detailing and Marine Technical Services.
• Door-buster discounts and prize giveaways, and
• Free refreshments, while supplies last
