EDGEWATER, MD — Anne Arundel County Police have released the name of a pedestrian who was critically injured April 20 when he was hit by a car. Charles Leapley, 32, of the 3800 block of Old Birdsville Road in Harwood, is being treated at R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center for possibly life-threatening injuries. The accident happened shortly before 9 p.m. Saturday on Solomons Island Road north of Colony Crossing.

Investigators say a 2000 Acura TL sedan driven by Kathryn Green, 60, of the 6700 block of Old Solomons Island Road in Friendship, was northbound on Solomons Island Road when it struck Leapley as he crossed the road. Leapley was walking from west to east and was in the northbound lane when struck. Police say he was wearing dark clothing and there were no street lights or ambient light in the area of the crash.

A Maryland State Police medevac helicopter landed in the parking lot of the Kmart on Solomons Island Road and flew Leapley to the trauma center.
