As the summer heats up, thousands of golfers in the area will seek an opportunity to sneak away for some time on the links.

There are plenty of golf courses around for people of all skill levels and budgets. Here’s a helpful list of public courses in Anne Arundel County, plus highlights of some located elsewhere in Maryland.

Eisenhower Golf Course

Baltimore County Golf
The county operates five courses, including The Woodlands, Greystone, Diamond Ridge, Rocky Point, and Fox Hollow. Fees range from $35 to $78 for a weekend round, depending on the course. There are discounts available for frequent golfers, and a variety of special rates for weekdays, seniors and twilight play.

Baltimore’s Classic 5
The Baltimore Municipal Golf Corporation operates five courses in the city: Pine Ridge, Clifton Park, Forest Park, Carroll Park and Mount Pleasant. Conditions of the courses vary, but these courses offer some of the best bargains for golf in the area and have some history to go with them. (Arnold Palmer and Nancy Lopez got started here.) Carroll Park is a nine-hole course and is well-regarded as a place for beginning golfers. Rates vary depending on course and time of play.

Maryland National Capital Parks and Planning Commission Courses
The MNCPPC operates a number of nine- and 18-hole courses in Prince George’s County and Montgomery County. Most are reasonably priced. Enterprise Golf Course in Mitchellville is considered one of the best-value public courses in the area. Do a search on the MNCPPC website to find a nearby course.

Montgomery County Golf
Operates nine course in Montgomery County, including the nine-hold Sligo Creek. Northwest Park golf course is one of the longest in the region. Little Bennett is considered one of the finer public courses in the area and also has a grass driving range.

Old South Country Club

The Baltimore Business Journal described the course as the "tenth most difficult course in the region." It was designed by Lindsay Ervin and features bent-grass fairways and greens maintained to tournament conditions.

This golf course and clubhouse are in the process of converting to private, but continue to offer public tee times for $45-$80 for 18 holes and $40-$45 for nine holes. The course is located in the community of South River Colony estates off of Solomons Island Road in Edgewater.
