Video: Sonic Set to Open on Monday

The first 100 people to show up on Monday morning will get a free t-shirt. Tell them Patch sent you.

 

When Dave Crocetti and his business partner, Sean Martin, received the green light from Sonic corporate to open nine Sonic Drive-ins in Maryland, they started looking for locations.

Crocetti, who lived in Davidsonville for part of his childhood, and Martin, who grew up in Severna Park, immediately looked to Edgewater.

Martin said there wasn't a whole lot available on the Route 2 corridor, basically the Lee property and the former KFC, (which will soon open as a Mexican eatery).

They settled on a parcel in front of Lee Airpark, between and . Their site plan was approved by the county in 2009.

It has taken nearly two years to get the building constructed and clearing the necessary permits to open the doors to customers.

Crocetti said that any bumps in the road are behind them and they're looking ahead, excited about Monday's opening. Two longtime business associates are helping: Tim Sutton as director of operations and Eric Leatherman as partner and executive director of operations.

On Friday, while construction and paving crews put the finishing touches on the building and site, dozens of new employees were being put through their paces by veteran Sonic staff who came from Pikesville to make sure things run smoothly.

Look for the ordering intercoms to go live at 8 a.m. Dec. 26. Crocetti said that the first 100 customers to come to Sonic on Monday will get a t-shirt.
