Prom Costs on Rise: How Much are You Spending?
South River High's prom is scheduled for May 18, while Southern's will take place May 4.

A lot goes into having the perfect prom.
There’s the dress, with nails, hair and shoes. Plus there is the limo, dinner beforehand, the actual prom ticket and any after-prom activities. All of these activities are adding up and causing the average cost of prom to skyrocket.
According to a recent report published on Huffington Post, the average prom cost in 2013 is $1,139, which is a 5 percent increase from last year.

Prom for South River High School is scheduled for May 18 at M&T Bank Stadium, and Southern High School's prom will take place May 4 at the Sheraton in Annapolis. But it seems like the spending for the special senior night begins long before the actual dance.
According to an article on MSN Money, two of the main culprits for the price increase is the dress and shoes. Dresses today are more elaborate and many girls buy two pairs of shoes—one to wear to prom and one to dance in.
