Second Report of Sewing Needle in Candy Surfaces

Maryland State Police are investigating a report in Calvert County; an earlier report of tampering in Salisbury involved the FBI.

A second case of sewing needles reportedly found in Halloween candy is being investigated by Maryland State Police, this time in Calvert County.

A mother in Huntingtown called authorities Monday night to report found she found metal sewing needles when inspecting Halloween candy before allowing her child to eat it. Troopers from the Prince Frederick Barrack visited the Patuxent View neighborhood to look for any other tainted candies and to make residents aware of the reported tampering. No other tainted candies or reports of tampering turned up.

State investigators also checked with local law enforcement in the area, but no other tampering cases were found. No injuries occurred.

On Sunday night, a Wicomico County teenager found a sewing needle in a Twizzler Halloween candy, according to Salisbury Police.

There were no signs of tampering visible to the exterior of the packaging, police said. The candy was not eaten and there were no injuries reported.
