Senior Spotlight: Southern High’s Ethan Clark
Southern High School senior Ethan Clark, 18, will attend Hofstra University in the fall.

About this series: Patch stopped by Southern High School on May 22 to speak with a few graduating seniors about their post-high school plans.
Southern High School senior Ethan Clark will leave West River for New York this fall when he attends Hofstra University on a Presidential Scholarship.
The 17-year-old said he wasn’t quite sure what he wanted to study yet, but he was leaning towards a double major in business and history, thanks in large part to a teacher at Southern.

During his sophomore year, Clark took AP Work History with John Ebley and said it inspired him.
“It was my favorite class that I took here,” Clark said. “It was a subject I was interested in and he was a really good teacher. I thought I knew everything going in but he had a lot more to teach me.”

Clark said he particularly enjoyed studying ancient history and roman times, an interest he shares with his dad.
“My dad is into theology and stuff and he got me interested in it too,” Clark said. “Martin Luther is kind of a cool dude.”
Besides being awarded a partial scholarship, Clark said he was drawn to Hofstra because of the environment around the school.
Located in Hempstead, NY, Hofstra provides an engaging campus life full with activity, something Clark said he really enjoyed.
“I just like the feeling of involvement,” Clark said. “Everything is going on and I like feeling like you are involved in things. I like cities and it feels like everything happens in New York.”
