South County Dancers Perform in Prague

Nine-year-old company takes honors at dance festival in the Czech Republic.

Members of Deale’s County Dance Conservatory traveled to the Czech Republic earlier this summer to perform in the New Prague Dance Festival 2011. While there, the company picked up honors for their performances.

The company, founded in 1992 by J. Davis Hobdy took third prize in "Musical Comedy/Theater Choreography Dance Theatre" and the "City of Prague" prize for the school’s performance art set by Hobdy to “Blowin' in the Wind” with a projection show formatted by Paulette Moynihan.

Performers from the school included school directors Ken Armstrong and Hobdy as well as student performers Allison Bobby, Salvia Lani, Paulette Moynihan, and Tomoko Thompson.

The festival included dance schools from Belgium, Greece, Israel, Japan, New Zealand, Poland, Russia, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey, and two other schools from the USA. 

The County Dance Conservatory has participated in the Prague Festival for the past nine years. The company has also performed at the European Festival of Dance and Performing Arts in Paris, France.

Locally, the company has performed at the Anne Arundel County Fair, Marlborough Day, South County Relay for Life, Chesapeake Pride Festival, and the National Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, DC.
