South County Residents Rock at Annapolis Idol
The first man to win the local competition beat out 13 other singers—including two from south county—in the final rounds Sunday night.
A Churchton woman and Davidsonville man rocked the stage Sunday night during Annapolis Idol, where a man won the competition for the first time ever.
Amanda Rae Jensen of Churchton made the final three for her rendition of "Give Me One Reason" by Tracy Chapman and Glen Noyes of Davidsonville performed "Ordinary People" by John Legend. However, neither vocalist could stop the first-ever man to win the contest.
Rob Spengler of Severn crooned his way to victory in the fifth installment of the major fundraiser for the .

Spengler, a graduate of and a regular voice at karaoke nights at in Annapolis, sang his way into the top three singers out of the 14 finalists who performed at in Parole.
The other two singers in the top three were Jensen and Kaeti Bradley of Arnold.

Spengler said he's never really pursued music as a career, though the victory may change that.
"I don't know," he said shortly after being handed the Annapolis Idol trophy. "We'll find out. I guess the sky's the limit."
During the day, Spengler said he works at the Department of Natural Resources and sometimes bartends at Howl at the Moon in Baltimore for his "fun job." But he said most of his singing takes place at Stan and Joe's.
The event also featured a silent auction as an additional fundraiser for the conflict resolution center. More than 200 people attended the show.
As winner, Spengler was awarded the top prize—a two-hour recording session at LSP Recording Studios, along with a cash prize and a $100 gift certificate to Guitar Center.
Also, Spengler will represent Annapolis Idol at various events throughout the year.
