South County Senior Center to Host Four Informative Sessions in August
Learn a little about our local lighthouses, personal safety, hearing loss and what kinds of critical medical information loved ones need to have on hand.
The , 27 Stepneys Lane, Edgewater, has announced four activities during the month of August.
• At 10 a.m. Aug. 16 — Bob Stevenson, an associate of the Annapolis Maritime Museum, will present a program on the history of the Chesapeake Bay lighthouses and the needs for navigation. For information, call 410-222-1927.
• At 10 a.m. Aug. 18 — Home Instead Senior Care will present a workshop, “Answering the Call,” which focuses on what to do when you get the call that your loved one is headed to the Emergency Room or when a medical situation arises and you are headed to a doctor’s office. It is critical to have your medical information ready and accessible. The workshop will help one to prepare for these situations. Call 410-222-1927 for information.

• At 10 a.m. Aug. 23 — a program, “Personal Safety," will help you stay safe and be aware of your surroundings, whether you are in your home, out shopping, or anywhere in the community. Anne Arundel County Police Cpl. Jimmy Miller will help you to brush up on being tuned into what’s happening around you. He also will share the latest news and ideas for remaining safe. • At 12:30 p.m. on Aug. 31— John Cumins will present “Do You Hear What I Hear?” He’ll provide information on hearing loss, symptoms, and help that is available. The new Hearing Center at Sam’s Club will offer free hearing screenings to both Sam’s Club members and non-members. Call 410-222-1927 for information.
