Anne Arundel County Recreation and Parks serves millions of residents and visitors annually through a wide variety of services and programs. Its primary focus is to provide comprehensive recreational programs for residents and safeguard valuable land through the maintenance and management of over 160 parks and natural areas. The department manages specialized recreational facilities, including two swim centers, two golf courses, three ice rinks, a baseball stadium, a softball complex, and programs tailored to diverse needs ranging from school-age childcare to adaptive recreation. It also cares for thousands of acres of land, encompassing community parks, greenways, archaeological sites, environmental and historical preserves, and large regional parks spanning several hundred acres. Its mission is to create opportunities that allow individuals to enjoy life, explore nature, and restore their health and well-being. The Anne Arundel County high school cheerleading competition was held Jan. 30 at Northeast High School.   According to South River High School varsity coach Robin Beck, the results were: Arundel first, Chesapeake second, Northeast third and South River fourth. The top four teams moved on to regionals along with fifth-place Broadneck, which made it in as a wild card. These five teams competed Feb. 8 at regionals at North County High School. Anne Arundel County took the top five spots, all moving on to state competition. Regional results were: first, South River; second, Northeast; third, Chesapeake; fourth, Broadneck; and fifth, Arundel. State competition will be held Feb. 18 at North County High School.
